Driscoll on the Emerging Church, from 2/25/08
In the first half of the sermon, Driscoll separates out the streams of the emerging movement into 4 lanes on the highway: Emerging Evangelical, House Church Evangelical, Emerging Reformed, and Emerging Liberal.
I just about fit his “Emerging Reformed” definition. I was pleasantly surprised He still considers non-cessationist Reformed, and states that is the majority position for most in that camp… although I differ some on his views on women in ministry. (How? I won’t get into that right now, I may post something later this semester as I write a position paper on women in ministry for Sys Theo II )
Also, a bonus video with Q&A.
I must say, some of his commentary about Rob Bell makes me want to take a closer look at his underlying theology… I think Velvet Elvis is going to be moved up on my reading list, and I may try to check out a couple more NOOMAs.
I haven’t found a blog post with links to resources, as mentioned a the beginning of Driscoll’s message, but we listened to an extended treatment of Driscoll’s discussion on the Emerging movement from the Convergence Conference at SEBTS in my Christian Worship in Contemporary Culture class yesterday. It’s not on YouTube, but the video is available free on iTunes.
