No key, no bullet.

This is a response to a blog post here, which I found linked from here.  This will make more sense if you read the original post first.

Honestly, I don’t think that there is a “magic bullet” to reaching my generation.

I do think music is a factor for our generation, but not the factor. Authenticity and community are also factors for a generation who has grown up amongst broken families, and marketing up to their ears spinning everything one way or the other, yes.   Solid teaching is important, yes.  Biblically speaking, I take issue with the “let’s sing less” the preaching is what we’re here for. The music IS (or should be) part of preaching the word (see Ephesians 5:19), and God commands us to sing!

How do we reach this generation for Christ - those who have walked away from Him or never known Him before? It probably boils down to taking His truth seriously enough to care about our sin, becoming like Him so that we are not hypocrites as we represent Him, not only being hearers but doers, and going into the world and loving our neighbors enough to speak the truth of Christ’s death and resurrection in love.

If God didn’t give us any other formula, why do we spend our time trying to come up with one?

Julie. I definitely agree with you on this. Today I get a lot less feedback from young people regarding the music at Parkview. I think it is probably because, as you point out, music isn’t the major issue people are focusing on.
