Don’t be a stumbling block

August 14, 2007

“I know that many Christians would argue that I am rejecting the package and that I should not necessarily reject Christ himself. At the moment I cannot see a meaningful way of separating the two.”

This is a quote from a blog I read called de-conversion. It’s a blog for people who are skeptical about Christianity, de-converting, or former Christians. The original post can be found here.

Do we really know what holiness is anymore? It’s so easy to have a casual attitude about our faith. If we confess our sins, God forgives us. If we mess up, no biggie, right? Well, the thing is, we are representing Christ… every moment of every day, with every breath. We are fleshy humans, we will never be perfect. But do we really pursue Christlikeness with our whole hearts? Do we really grieve our sins?

Sure, we are forgiven. But even our sinfulness isn’t just about us. It affects our ability to reach the world for Christ.

So many people I have had conversations with in the past won’t accept Christ because of the way they see Christians living. Partly because of hypocrisy or bad experiences. We aren’ t walking the walk we talk. We pretend to have it all together, while it is visible that we don’t. We don’t take our sin seriously. We are selfish. We’re not willing to sacrifice for our faith.

All of those things turn us into a stumbling block. I do not want to be a stumbling block to an unbeliever. To cause his heart to be hardened to the God that I love.

So… let’s pursue holiness!!! For HIS glory!
