Was reading through Genesis 5-6, and have always thought of doing some sort of chart of the lives of Adam and his descendants through Noah.
Here is the data, which I first put into excel.

Here is a link to the timeline, along with some observations, for your viewing pleasure.

Clicked through this item in my twitter feed and decided to have a read. The main thrust of the article is that you should wait for marriage to have sex. I wholeheartedly agree. I was generally enjoying the fiction meant to teach, until I got to this point…
"My point is that in the same way, sex is pleasurable, but that’s not why sex was made. It was made so that spouses could make children.
via Going All the Way.
That’s a pretty big statement right there. I don’t and wouldn’t dispute that procreation is one of the purposes of sex. Be fruitful and multiply, children are a blessing from the lord, let your quiver be full, and all that.
But where exactly in the bible does it say that the God’s primary intention or purpose in making sex was so that spouses could make babies? How do we know that taking pleasure in your spouses body is not just as much of a purpose? Think about, oh, I don’t know… Song of Solomon? Exhortations not to deny our spouse except for specific times of prayer and fasting?
And for those who make such arguments about sex being for the purpose of procreation, what do you say to the 2.1 million married women who are unable to get pregnant? (See CDC stats)
Can’t we simply argue to those outside of marriage that God’s law is best and meant for our good, and the freedom of sex within the marriage bed is the best sex you will ever have because there is no guilt, comparison, shame, or fear involved?
Kroger has a great deal on wirebound notbooks this week. Both their wide rule and college ruled notebooks, top flight brand, are on sale for only 15 cents, normally priced at $1.
We got 75 for George to use in some of his writing classes… normally would have cost $75, only cost $11.25, for a total savings of $63.75.
My friends who are teachers and moms, might want to stock up!

During a sermon several weeks ago, one of our pastors shared that some folks had said, well, what if I actually tithed my time instead of giving money? Would that be okay? (The answer was no, but that’s not the topic I’m going to be hitting here)
Tithing your time to your church would be spending approximately 17 hours doing “God stuff”, as there are 168 hours in a week. So if you are given generous credit for your personal devotions at an hour a day – and let’s be honest, alot of us don’t even make that – how are you giving God the other ten hours?
Giving 10 hours of service to your church would be a great thing! However, I don’t think that there is such a thing as ‘tithing your time” in God’s eyes.
Aside from reading your bible and serving at church, consider this:
- At work, you are representing God.
- On the highway as you react to someone cutting you off in traffic (with your jesus fish displayed proudly on the back bumper)- you are representing God.
- On the internet and facebook – the websites you visit and your words typed to others are representing God.
- In the way you make time for your spouse’s needs above your own need to watch reality tv, or don’t, you are representing God.
24 hours a day, seven days a week, our time belongs to God, we are representing him. We don’t clock in and out, and there is no on/off switch. Our lives were bought with a price.
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
